S - Singer

Early Days

Kevin started singing as toddler around his home in Lansing, Michigan, where he eventually declared at the age of nine that “Let’s Groove” by Earth, Wind, and Fire was one of the greatest songs of all time (along with “Planet Rock” by Africa Bambaataa, of course!). He learned to sing by practicing with his mother (who sang with Aretha Franklin in the church where Kevin’s grandfather was the pastor and who was offered a record deal with Motown before she decided to go to college and pursue a PhD instead), and by trying to impersonate his favorite artists of that time (including Stevie Wonder, Prince, Michael Jackson, and Donnie Hathaway, among others).

School Days

By the time he reached high school, Kevin was singing and dancing in school musicals like “Once Upon a Mattress” (where he played the Jester) and performing as the lead singer in a high school pop band called “Vital Red.” Kevin continued to serve as a lead singer in his college band, “Hundred Acre Wood,” where he wrote original pop and funk music with his bandmates, performed as the opening act for the Bo Deans at Foellinger Auditorium (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign) in 1991, and released an independently-produced album of original songs called “Self Titled." He then attended law school at the University of Georgia School of Law (for more on that, see the “Lawyer” section of this website), but his pursuit of law did not end his pursuit of music. One of Kevin’s bandmates from Hundred Acre Wood attended law school at UGA as well, and he and Kevin still did some acoustic sets during law school to keep their musical sides alive.

Lawyer Days

Upon graduating from law school and becoming a lawyer, Kevin’s love for music and performance only grew. While he was a full-time associate at Alston & Bird in Atlanta in 1999, Kevin also started working on original musical productions with the Atlanta Bar Association and studying salsa dancing with Julian Mejia of Salsatlanta. Within two years, Julian hired Kevin as a salsa instructor and Kevin went on to become a co-leader and choreographer of Julian’s professional salsa dance performance team from 2001 - 2008. Kevin is still teaching and dancing salsa to this day (for more on that, see the “Salsa dancer and instructor” section of this website). The love of salsa dancing and exploring different cultures eventually led right back to Kevin’s love of singing, as he studied to become fluent in Spanish and started singing in a professional flamenco performance group, Calo Gitano, in 2004. He was the lead singer and cajon player for the group from 2004 - 2022, and, during that time, he studied flamenco singing in Spain and the United States with the great Esperanza Fernandez from 2014 - 2019, and with other flamenco greats in both the United States and Spain (such as Lydia Cabello, Daniela Tugues, and Jesus Castilla Rey).

Nowadays

Kevin’s openness to different musical forms of expression eventually led him to start exploring jazz music, and he became a regular singer at jazz jams throughout the city of Atlanta from 2017 - 2020. Through the connections he made with jazz musicians, Kevin started doing his own shows at Ziba’s Restaurant and Wine Bar in Grant Park from 2019 - 2020, where he performed an eclectic blend of jazz, pop, R&B, and Latin music to packed houses with musicians such as Shawboxx Shaw, Randy Hoexter, and Kenneth Kenito Murray. He even combined his experience with jazz and flamenco to create two “Jazz y Flamenco” shows with Misha Stefanuk, Shawboxx Shaw, and Lauren Seay.

Following the pandemic, Kevin got back to musical stage performances by singing lead for U.S. Beat Band, The American Flyers, and KP and the Classics, where he sang everything from Motown tunes and contemporary pop and R&B to rock and roll.  He also kept his open heart to different musical forms by performing in two country-themed shows at the Strand Theater in 2025 (”Strand Ole Opry” and “Country Christmas”). Through his stage work, Kevin became known for his high-energy and interactive performances that draw the crowd into the music and the moment. Kevin’s interview with Tribute Band Central in 2025 speaks to the type of performer Kevin has become and why he has connected with so many different audiences over the years.

Today, Kevin continues to hone his craft by training with the internationally acclaimed jazz vocalist and performer, Lori Williams, who inspires Kevin daily to dive deeper into the genres that have inspired his voice over the years. Kevin continues to find new connections between the musical genres that have inspired him and shaped him as a performer, and he looks forward to bringing all of his inspirations (jazz, R&B, pop, Latin, musical theater, and everything in between) and energy to YOU when you connect with him at his next show (and every show)!
